Early-mid C19 timber-framed and plastered house. Two storeys. Three window range, double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground storey has 2 former shop windows with glazing bars. Roof slate.


During its time, the Old Bakery was also a village shop and Post Office. It seems logical to assume that the Post Office was originally situated in Old Post Office Cottage and that this transferred to the Old Bakery some time during the 20th century. Later, the Post Office business transferred across the road to the shop in what is now Drapers: it is probable that the telephone box shown in the photo above moved across the road at the same time.

The bakehouse , subsequently demolished, was on the left in the photo below . Frank Marsh, the father of Margaret Drane, was the baker for forty years and, as a child, Margaret used to help him with his rounds.
