Gulston was another parson who failed to live in either Great Sampford or Hempstead during his incumbency. Curtis explains that New College Oxford frequently purchased country livings in order to accommodate Fellows whom they wished to be rid of or who were unable to continue as Fellows as a result of marriage. They acquired the living of Little Sampford in 1767 and, for almost two hundred years the rectors of this parish were New College men.
As with Watson, Gulston was also presented to the livings of Hempstead and Great Sampford. However he saw even less of them than Watson had done.
